Imperialism 1898-1919
Civil Rights during 1898-1919 played a role both inside and outside the country as America entered World War I. Inside the country, the suffrage movement grew. Women all over America were demanding the same rights, mostly voting rights,as men. Their cries were heard, but ignored. That is until World War I. As almost all working aged men were drafted, women filled the jobs that the men left, as seen in the second image.This played a very big role in gaining the right to vote. Also during this time, labor unions were starting to form. Labor unions were there to protect the workers. They advocated for child labor laws, fair wages, fair hours and other safety precautions to keep workers healthy. One of the most popular ways of protesting was a labor strike, or just a strike. A strike is when all workers at a specific job do not work or abstain from working. Labor Unions were very much disliked by the rich corporate men because of this, shown in the first image.
