Timeline #5

         We already spoke about the strides for African Americans during/before the Cold War. Now it is time to talk about the strides made for the LGBT communities.
          Before the 60's, Eisenhower banned homosexual citizens from working in the US Government. This made LGBT citizens even more of a target for being "communist sympathizers" and "communist spies" Blackmail and Witch Hunts forced many LGBT citizens out of the government. This event is called The Lavender Scare.
           During the 60's little successes pathed the way for larger scale work in the 70's and 80's. Gay and Lesbian Americans became more politically active, speaking out about how their whole life was criminalized, or at least believed to be a mental illness. LGBT newspapers popped up and spoke out about the discrimination.
             One of the biggest moments within this time period is the Stonewall Riots. In 1969, the police raided a popular gay bar and safehaven for many LGBT people. This caused a 6 day protest and riot against police raiding and discrimination.

     I chose this image because it shows exactly how many people the lavender scare and anti-lgbt laws affected.             

Timeline #4

            During the Cold War, strides for equality were made especially within the African American communities. The end of World War II allowed for a more organized Civil Rights Movement to flourish. New leaders emerged such as one of the most famous- Martin Luther King Jr. MLK, along with other civil rights groups organized protest rallies, boy-cots, sit-ins, and marches. The federal government heard their call and took action. Lyndon B. Johnson enacted the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which ended segregation in public areas and banned employment segregation, and The Voting Rights Act of 1965, a law that overcame barriers on a state and local level that prevented African Americans from voting.

I chose this image because it is a good example of the way the Civil Rights Movement worked and is obviously showing the morals that they relied on for rhetoric.
