The beginning of this article explains what the Great Depression was and claims that African Americans suffered the most during it. The author makes connections on how the conditions for African Americans during this period was the foundation of the Civil Rights Movement. He compares the unemployment rate between White Americans and Black Americans. He also expresses how even though the black vote allowed FDR into office, his New Deal Programs were still discriminatory towards African Americans. He says that they are " Last Hired, First Fired"
The author does not has a strong bias. He writes fact. One might say that because he claims African Americans suffered more during The Great Depression that it is a bias. I would have to disagree with that. Although he claims it, he does a good job defending his argument with quotes and primary sources.
This article did not really shape my views on this specific topic. From the beginning I agreed with him so it is hard to shape an opinion if it is already had. But the article did inform me of things that I might have assumed happened but never looked into on my own. The article also gave me a new idea of how this suffering may have affected the Civil Rights Movement.
